Episode 7
Return to Boleskine
Scene 1 - Boleskine House

EXT. - BOLESKINE HOUSE - DAY
FADE IN.
RINGING in CHARLIE’S ear. Heavy BREATHING. Slowly birds begin CHIRPING, the wind gently RUSTLES and the trees CREAK.
CHARLIE
(Out of breath)
What the hell. Was that gunshots.

Clothes RUSTLE as Charlie stands up.
CHARLIE
There are holes in the wall ... Why the hell was someone shooting at me?
Charlie WALKS through the DEBRIS of the house, CLIMBING over the ruins of the house and CRUNCHING down the gravel driveway.

CHARLIE
What is going on here? I need to speak to Grace.

FADE OUT

Scene 2 - Grace

INT. - POLICE STATION
FADE IN.
Door to the Police Station OPENS. Sounds from outside bleed in. Footsteps on Lino. CHARLIE rings the bell.
GRACE
(Surprised)
Charlie, how are—
(Pause)
Christ, you’re whiter than a sheet What happened?
CHARLIE
(Tired)
Someone ... shot me.

Grace PUSHES back from her desk and quickly OPENS the door into reception.
GRACE
(Alarm creeping in)
Shot you? Where? Where are you hurt?
CHARLIE
(Tired and confused)
No ... no. Not hurt.
(Pause)
Shot AT me. I’m not hurt, Grace.
(Pause)
Grace.
(Raising his voice)
Grace. I’m fine.
GRACE
(Skeptical)
“Fine” isn’t exactly the word I’d use for someone who just got shot at, Charlie.
Honestly, you couldn’t just send a text like a normal person? Had to come in looking like death warmed over?
CHARLIE
(Tired, trying to focus)
I don’t know. I was underground and ... Boleskine House was ... Ducked and heard the bullets.
GRACE
(Slowly, frowning)
Underground? Boleskine House? Charlie, are you sure you’re not hurt? Concussion maybe? You’re making even less sense than usual.
CHARLIE
(Tired and confused)
No, no. I’m not hurt just ... Tired ... scared ... I’m not used to ...
GRACE
(Switching into professional mode)
Alright, you’re done for tonight. I’m taking you back to the B&B. You need to rest.
CHARLIE
(Shocked)
You need to go to ... Boleskine ... That’s where I was shot ... shot at. There’s a door. Find the door.
GRACE
(Friendly but dry)
Okay, okay, I’ll play detective later. Maybe it was just a farmer practicing his aim, but sure, I’ll go and hunt down your mysterious door. They shouldn’t be using rifles this time of year anyway, so I’ll make sure to give someone a lecture.
GRABBING Charlie under the arm and taking his weight.
CHARLIE
(Murmuring, half-aware)
Be careful, Grace. I think they’re after me ... these ... people.
GRACE
(Sarcastic but with warmth)
Dangerous people, huh? I’ll be just fine, big guy. Not my first rodeo. Now, let’s get you back to the hotel before you fall apart on me.
CHARLIE
(Weakly)
Careful ... Grace ... it’s dangerous.
GRACE
(Dryly)
I’ll be sure to wear my bulletproof vest to Boleskine, alright? Now quit worrying—let’s focus on getting you tucked into bed before you start hallucinating more secret doors.
The door to the Police Station OPENS with a quiet creak. Ambient town sounds SPILL into the room—soft chatter, the distant RUMBLE of a car. Together, they STEP outside, Grace steadying Charlie as they exit. The door CLOSES behind them with a soft thud.
FADE OUT

Scene 3 - The Inn

INT - CHARLIE’S ROOM
FADE IN.
Birds CHIRPING. A KNOCK at the door. CHARLIE wakes and gets up, WALKING across the carpet and LEANING on the door.
CHARLIE
(Sleepy, voice muffled through the door)
Hello.
GRACE
(Friendly)
Hi Charlie, it’s Grace. Rise and shine!
CHARLIE
(Sleepy, half mumbling)
Give me a minute Grace ... just woke up.
Charlie begins RUSHING around the room, GRABBING clothes from random spots. He YANKS on a shirt and—THUD—bangs his leg against the bed frame.
CHARLIE
(Angrily, wincing)
Ow, bloody ...
GRACE
(Worried, calling through the door)
Are you okay in there big guy? Need a hand?
CHARLIE
(Apologetic, hurried)
I’m fine, just kicked the bed.
Charlie finishes getting dressed and OPENS the door.
CHARLIE
(Friendly)
Grace, come in. What did you find?
GRACE
(Mock-offended, stepping in)
Oh, no “Good morning, Grace” or “How are you?” first? I’m hurt, Charlie. Truly.
CHARLIE
(Apologetic)
Sorry, How are you, Grace.
GRACE
(Friendly)
Better now, thanks. You seem a lot more... human this morning.
CHARLIE
(Friendly)
The sleep did me good, I feel a lot better.
GRACE
(Friendly)
Good to hear it.
(Serious, professional)
Now, down to business. I found the bullet marks on the wall in Boleskine House. Also found some shells about 50 metres from the house just next to the tree line at the back of the house.
CHARLIE
(Surprised)
So they were shooting? Do you think it was deliberate? It sure felt it.
GRACE
(Professional)
It’s hard to say yet. They were close enough, and they should’ve seen you, which makes it suspicious. I also found a bit of blood on a tree trunk—small cut, probably from someone leaning against it. I took a sample. It'll take a few days to get results, though, you know how it goes. Had you been at the house long?
CHARLIE
(Serious, thinking back)
I had just come out of a concealed door in the house. It led from an underground
(Pause, finding the right words)
An underground temple.
GRACE
(Surprised)
A temple? Under the house?
CHARLIE
(Serious)
Yeah. And it connects to the Mort House in the cemetery. It’s... bizarre.
GRACE
(Professional, trying to balance skepticism and curiosity)
Charlie, it’s possible that someone was playing with a gun and you just appeared at the wrong time.
CHARLIE
(Shocked)
They were shooting right at me.
GRACE
(Soft but firm, sympathetic)
Charlie, I know that’s what it felt like and it might have been deliberate. But you know that I need to think about all angles here, we don’t have the luxury of jumping to conclusions.

Charlie SIGHS deeply, the weight of the situation pressing down on him.
GRACE
(Supportive, gently teasing)
Come on, Charlie. You used to do this for a living. You know the drill. Let’s not get too carried away... yet.
CHARLIE
(Apologetic, calming down)
You’re right. I’m sorry. It’s just... it feels like I’ve got a target on my back since I got here.
GRACE
(Sympathetic, softening)
I know, big guy. It’s been a weird one, no doubt about that. It could be connected to Jamie and the robbery... or it could just be some terrible timing. Either way, you’re still in one piece, and that’s what matters right now.
CHARLIE
(Serious, determined)
Grace, I need you to come with me to Boleskine. I want you to see this underground place for yourself. I’m not making this up, and you need to see it with your own eyes.
(Pause)
So you know I’m not going mad here.
GRACE
(Friendly, smiling)
Alright, Charlie. I’ve got nothing better to do this afternoon. Besides, there’s no crime in sleepy little Fort Augustus, remember? I’ll let PC Waterman know I’m heading out. Give me a few minutes, and I’ll meet you downstairs. The car’s outside—it’ll save you the walk.
CHARLIE
(Professional)
Thanks Grace, I’ll be down in a minute.
Grace walks out and the door CLOSES behind her with a soft CLICK.
FADE OUT

Scene 4 - Boleskine Cemetery

EXT. - BOLESKINE CEMETERY
The car PULLS up on a patch of grass beside the road. CHARLIE and GRACE OPEN their doors with a creak and step out. They CLOSE the doors in unison, and begin WALKING side by side towards the cemetery gate.
GRACE
(Friendly, teasing)
So, you think those clothes in the chamber belonged to Jamie?
CHARLIE
(Friendly, but thoughtful)
At the time, yeah, I was pretty sure. 100% sure even... but after a bit of sleep, I’m starting to second guess myself. I did find something else though.
Charlie REACHES into his jacket pocket, PULLING out a folded piece of paper and HANDING it to Grace. She UNFOLDS it carefully.
GRACE
(Surprised)
It’s blank, Charlie. What makes you think it’s Jamie’s?
CHARLIE
(Nods)
It’s the same kind of paper Jamie was using at the Abbey. He’d been scribbling all those notes on the occult. Recognised it right away.
GRACE
(Friendly, skeptical)
Okay, but... it might be the same type of paper, doesn’t mean it’s from Jamie. Could be from anyone—one of the Brothers, or some other visitor to the Abbey.
CHARLIE
(Laughing, shaking his head)
Fair point. I’m really slipping, huh? How’d I miss that?
GRACE
(Grinning)
Hey, you’ve been living in a whirlwind the past few days. Surprised you can think straight at all. Meanwhile, I’ve just been drinking tea and handling parking tickets.
CHARLIE
(Chuckles)
True. Still, I should’ve been sharper... I’ll check it out later, see if any of the Brothers recognise it.
(Pauses)
Charlie GESTURES towards the Mort House.
CHARLIE
(Focused)
Here we are. The Mort House. The door’s around the other side. Let’s take a look.
Charlie LEADS the way into the Mort House, his movements becoming more precise as he CHECKS the floor, FEELING for any marks or gaps in the wall.
CHARLIE
(Surprised)
There’s nothing here... no marks on the floor, no gap in the wall...
GRACE
(Friendly, but curious)
But there was a door here yesterday, right?
CHARLIE
(Definitely)
Yeah, without a doubt. I saw it—felt it. The guy I chased ran in here, and there were clear marks on the ground. I even stuck my hand through a gap in the wall. It was right here...
Charlie RUNS his hand along the wall, PRESSING in spots, but it feels solid. His frustration grows.
CHARLIE
(Surprised, frustrated)
It was here. How could they cover it up so quickly? And so perfectly...
GRACE
(Friendly, supportive)
Okay, big guy, relax. I believe you. Whoever it was, they’re good at covering their tracks. Really good. But didn’t you say there was another way in—through Boleskine House? Maybe that entrance is still open.
CHARLIE
(Annoyed, nodding slowly)
Yeah, maybe. Could be worth checking again.
FADE OUT
Scene 5 - Boleskine House

EXT. - BOLESKINE HOUSE
Birds CHIRPING faintly in the distance as CHARLIE and GRACE PICK their way through rubble and debris scattered outside the ruins. The sun is low, casting long shadows.
CHARLIE
(Friendly)
Alright, this is the spot. Where I got shot at. And the entrance should be...
Right about here.
He CROUCHES, BRUSHING away some dirt and twigs, REVEALING faint marks on the ground.
CHARLIE
(Satisfied)
Yeah, see? They tried to cover it, but not very well. Loose twigs, some dirt. You can still see the marks. Now... how to open it.
GRACE
(Friendly)
How did the door in the Mort House open?
CHARLIE
(Thinking, friendly)
There was a small gap, right around where a handle would be.
He RUNS his hand along the brick wall, loose gravel FALLING as he presses into a crevice.
CHARLIE
(Excited)
Here it is.
With effort, he PULLS the door. It GRINDS open, SCRAPING across the ground.
CHARLIE
(Heaving)
Open sesame.
GRACE
(Surprised, impressed)
Okay, big guy. Now we’re getting somewhere.
CHARLIE
(Grinning)
You doubted me?
GRACE
(Friendly, teasing)
I doubt everyone, Charlie. Even you. But I was about 80% on believing you.
CHARLIE
(Laughing)
You’re more cynical than I am.
GRACE
(Grinning)
Part of the job. Now let’s go see what’s down there.
Both Charlie and Grace PULL OUT small flashlights, FLICKING them on. The beams cut through the gloom as they STEP inside, beginning to DESCEND a set of narrow stone steps. Their footsteps ECHO faintly.
GRACE
(Friendly)
So, everything as you remember?
CHARLIE
(Friendly, focused)
Yeah, so far. These steps should lead to a door. Beyond that, the temple I saw.

They CONTINUE, their steps ECHOING in the tight space. After a few more turns, Charlie STOPS, his light catching an old wooden door.
CHARLIE
(Relieved)
And here we are.
He PUSHES the door, which CREAKS ominously as it swings open. Grace PEERS inside, her flashlight SWEEPING across the room.
GRACE
(Surprised)
Is that... an altar?
CHARLIE
(Nods, calm)
Yeah. This door is right behind it. Makes me think this entrance was for priests or someone important. Maybe the other door was for the congregation. I didn’t check the other doors last time—I heard this one slam behind me.
GRACE
(Excited)
Well, let’s find out now.
CHARLIE
(Amused, shaking his head)
Someone tried to run me over, shot at me, and now we’re in an underground temple that might’ve been used by kidnappers. And you’re acting like it’s Christmas.
GRACE
(Excited)
This is Fort Augustus, Charlie. The most exciting thing that’s happened here is someone getting drunk at a pub. Let me be excited before I get terrified, alright?
CHARLIE
(Laughing)
Okay, okay. Fair enough.

They CROSS the dirt floor to check the first conclave. Grace TAPS the walls with her flashlight, examining everything closely.
GRACE
(Disappointed)
Nothing here. Solid stone, no marks, no doors. Just... nothing.
CHARLIE
(Teasing)
Maybe we’ll find a vampire in the next one.
Grace SWATS Charlie with her flashlight, irritated but playful.
GRACE
(Irritated)
Don’t be that guy. The worst kind of person is someone who makes others feel dumb for being excited.
CHARLIE
(Sad, apologetic)
Alright, I’m sorry. You’re right.

They move on to the next conclave, continuing to check the walls. Grace’s demeanor lightens up again.
CHARLIE
(Friendly)
That was a good point, by the way. I always thought of it as banter, but you’re right.
GRACE
(Grinning, friendly)
Thanks. It’s a good philosophy, actually. From the best.
CHARLIE
(Friendly)
Who said it?
GRACE
(Teasing)
Taylor Swift.
CHARLIE
(Chuckling)
Never listened to her, but sounds like she’s got a good head on her shoulders.
GRACE
(Friendly)
You should give her a try. Might learn something, big guy.

They CROSS to the other side of the room, where Grace spots something on the wall.
GRACE
(Surprised)
Hold on, there’s a symbol carved into the wall. It’s a...
CHARLIE
(Calm)
Yeah, I’ve seen this before. It’s in Jamie’s notes, and I looked into it when I researched Thelema. It’s a hexagram with two arrows pointing inward, meeting at a flower. It represents Nuit and Hadit—two gods from Crowley’s writings. Male and female aspects of the same god.
GRACE
(Surprised)
Wow, you really went deep into this, huh?
CHARLIE
(Calm)
Deep enough to know it’s crazy stuff. But this place was probably used by Crowley and his followers. What it’s used for now... that’s anyone’s guess.
GRACE
(Curious)
Why did Crowley need an underground temple?
CHARLIE
(Calm)
He was supposedly trying to use an ancient ritual to summon his guardian angel.
GRACE
(Cynical)
Did he ever manage it?
CHARLIE
(Calm, ominous)
Who knows? Allegedly, he summoned something. Maybe a being, or a portal to another realm. Whatever it was, it’s said to be trapped here, waiting.
A loud BANG echoes from the entrance, and Grace JUMPS, screaming.
GRACE
(Terrified)
What the hell was that?!
CHARLIE
(Calm)
Probably the door to Boleskine. Did you close it?
GRACE
(Irritated)
No!
CHARLIE
(Calm)
Let’s keep looking. There’s more down this tunnel.
They walk further into the tunnel, their footsteps crunching on the dirt floor. Grace’s breathing is heavier now, her earlier excitement dimmed by growing unease.
CHARLIE
(Calm)
The tunnel curves to the right. There are four rooms. The second one is where I think Jamie was held... or hiding.
GRACE
(Annoyed)
You really know how to set the mood, don’t you?
CHARLIE
(Apologetic)
Sorry, Grace.
They reach the second room. Charlie stops at the entrance, his flashlight sweeping over the empty space.
CHARLIE
(Confused)
What the... it’s empty. This is the same room. The symbol’s still on the wall, but everything else... gone.
GRACE
(Sympathetic)
Are you sure this is it? It looks like no one's been here in years.
CHARLIE
(Surprised)
There was a bed, books, clothes... everything’s gone, but this is the same room.
Grace LOOKS around, seeing nothing but dust and dirt.
GRACE
(Supportive)
Maybe we should check the other rooms. This place is a maze.
They leave the room, moving quickly to the next. Nothing. The frustration in Charlie’s voice is growing.
CHARLIE
(Frustrated)
Nothing in this one either. How did they clear everything out? How?
GRACE
(Calm, concerned)
Charlie, slow down.
CHARLIE
(Frustrated)
Someone’s screwing with me, Grace. I’m not mistaken. I know what I saw.
GRACE
(Firm, but kind)
I get it, big guy, but we have to focus on what’s in front of us. No evidence means no answers, no matter what we feel.
CHARLIE
(Calm, resigned)
You’re right. It’s been a long few days.
GRACE
(Friendly)
Now let’s get out of this tunnel. It’s spooky as hell down here.
CHARLIE
(Laughing)
You’re not wrong. Let’s go.
They start heading back up the tunnel, their flashlights flickering slightly as they disappear into the dark.
FADE OUT

Scene 6 - Meeting Father Oswald

EXT. - ROAD OUTSIDE BOLESKINE HOUSE
The wind BLOWS through the trees as CHARLIE and GRACE WALK down a gravel road. The sound of WAVES on the LOCH can be heard in the distance.
GRACE
(Calmly, noticing)
Who’s that at the car?
(Pauses)
One of the Brothers?
CHARLIE
(Surprised)
It’s Father Oswald.
GRACE
(Still calm)
See? People who are missing eventually turn up.
CHARLIE
(Calling out)
Father... welcome back.
FATHER OSWALD
(Cheerfully)
Oh, hello, Charlie! I saw the car and figured Grace would show up sooner or later. Didn’t expect you though.
CHARLIE
(Sternly)
You’ve been missing.
FATHER OSWALD
(Surprised)
Missing? I’m not missing, I’m right here.
(Light chuckle)
CHARLIE
(Sternly, more direct)
Cut the crap. You left the Abbey. The Abbot didn’t know where you were, and we’re in the middle of a missing persons case. Where have you been?
FATHER OSWALD
(More serious now)
Okay, friend. Honestly, I haven’t been missing. I go walking from time to time. Helps me commune with our Lord out in nature. It’s part of the reason I stay here. The Abbot usually doesn’t mind—I didn’t mean to worry anyone.
CHARLIE
(Slightly placating)
The Abbot...
(Pauses)
He wasn’t exactly worried about you.
(Apologetic)
Sorry, it’s been a day, Father.

FATHER OSWALD
(Gently)
No need to apologise, friend. I actually came up here to help you both.
GRACE
(Surprised)
Help us? How?
FATHER OSWALD
(Pleasantly)
After my walk, I went back to the Abbey, dropped off my things, and headed to the library to check on Brother Ambrose. He can get overwhelmed sometimes, especially if I’ve been away. I was helping with some books when I noticed his hand—it had a deep cut along the palm.
GRACE
(Curious)
Really? How does one get a cut like that in a library?
FATHER OSWALD
(Nods)
Exactly what I thought, so I asked him about it. But he...
(Pauses)
Well, he shoved his hands into his robes, mumbled something about it being none of my business, and walked off. Seemed pretty tense. But, then again, Ambrose is often uptight. Thought I should let you know. The officer in town said you were up here, so I came to find you. Lovely day for it.
GRACE
(Calmly, thinking aloud)
A cut on his hand? Interesting. What do you think, big guy?
CHARLIE
(Angrily, determined)
I think it’s time I went back to the Abbey to have a word with our Brother.
FADE OUT
